Güzel the Turkish dog rescue

This is my goodbye.

I never understood the phrase, "If you love something, let it go"

Why the f*** would I let something go if I love it

That is, until Güzel

We rescued Güzel in Turkey, and she filled our lives with love. She was the snuggliest dog. She was the first to come say good morning to us every day, and would fall asleep between us at night.

We began to notice her aggression at around 1.5 years old. It was small first, low growls at our other dogs when they'd get near her food or bed

Her aggression escalated, and eventually turned into attacks

How could a dog so loving, have such a dark side towards her own sisters?

The last straw was when she attacked our older dog Freedom so badly that she would've gotten surgery if it wasn't for her heart murmur.

My world shattered. I couldn't imagine a life without my Guzie bear, but we knew we couldn't continue to put our other dogs at risk

To be honest, we weren't sure if we'd be able to rehome her, and discussed behavior euthanasia (putting her down)

I cried the kind of sobs where your breath is so short, it's hard to breathe. It didn't feel real. How could this have happened. I felt like a dog parent failure

And that's when an angel came down from the heavens and into our DM's. Lol

Kate was a fellow outdoor enthusiast who had recently decided to adopt a dog

It's hard to explain the mixed emotions I felt when Kate came to pick her up.

I was so heartbroken, yet there was also happiness in the same moment. I was happy knowing she was going to somebody who loves the outdoors as much as we do, continuing her adventurous life, and that her love would bring healing to somebody who needed it.

From the moment I found you Güzel, I knew you'd be destined for greatness. We have your past, and Kate has your future. I love you Güzie bear.
