The Australian government has announced the planning level for the 2024-25 permanent Migration Program, aiming to strike a balance between the Skill and Family streams by allocating 185,000 places in an approximate 70:30 split. While this represents a slight reduction of 5,000 places compared to the previous program, the government is committed to implementing significant reforms in Australia's migration system, investing $18.3 million over the next four years to boost economic prosperity and restore system integrity.

In other developments, Australia is set to implement a lottery system for backpacker visas, requiring citizens from specific countries like China, India, and Vietnam to pay a $25 fee to participate in a randomized ballot for working holiday visas.

Furthermore, updates to the 482 visa application process include a reduction in the required work experience, aiming to streamline the process and attract skilled professionals who may not have extensive work experience but possess the talent and capabilities to contribute to Australia's thriving sectors.
