Katherine hasn't seen her kids in over 3 years.

Danny hasn't seen his kids in over 4 years.

They say their children were abducted by their other parent due to Japan's controversial sole custody laws.

For years, this law has given one parent legal authority over a child after divorce. This resulted in the abduction of children and some parents being totally cut off from seeing their kids.

The sole custody law has been criticised for incentivising child abduction in Japan.

This year, the Japanese parliament has approved a change to the law, which will allow divorced couples to share custody of their children from 2026.
