Exploring the Remains of Confederate Motor Speedway | S1ap on Location: Episode 8

Big shoutout to Evan Tripp, my camera man who got married this weekend. Go give him a lot of love on his Instagram: www.instagram.com/impunny88/

Confederate Motor Speedway was originally a 1/4 mile dirt track that played host to the first stock car starts ever by Cale Yarborough and David Pearson. This configuration only lasted between 1950-1955 before being abandoned the first time. In 1970 it was revamped and lengthened to 3/5 of a mile and ran until 1989 when the local zoning committee shut it down. Attempts to revive the track saw a handful of races run in 1992, 1993, and 1997, but after that the track went silent for good, and it remains in the configuration it was left in, in 1997.
