Last October, my girlfriend Jessica and I took a 4-night trip to Moab, Utah A trip like this would normally cost over $2,000 after factoring in the flights, hotel, and rental car. For us, the cost was under $500 because we leveraged our credit card benefits and paid for our flights and hotel using points.
We flew Southwest from Los Angeles (LAX) to Salt Lake City (SLC) which was an easy flight. For the hotel, we stayed in the Hyatt Place Moab which was very nice but isn't anything fancy. I LOVED the hot tub. As for the rental car, we booked a medium sedan but I paid to upgrade to the Wagoneer which was 100% worth it. I could have also taken a free upgrade to a BMW 😳
Our Cost Breakdown:
Flights: 11,043 Southwest Round Trip + $22.40 (Jessica flies virtually free because I hold Southwest Companion Pass)
Hotel: 24,000 World of Hyatt points (6.5K/night since we booked before the hotel became more expensive)
Rental Car: $381 including upgrade cost
-Park Entry Fees: $80
Retail Cost:
Flights: $500 R/T for 2
-Hotel: $1,500 for 4 nights
Rental Car: $500 (getting the upgraded car would have been much more expensive without Hertz President's Circle Status)
-Park Entry Fees: $80
