Ron was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an asbestos-related lung cancer in 2018. Given just three to nine months to live, he's just ran his 42nd Great North Run in September 2023, five years on. This is thanks to his own positive outlook and determination, and the support he's had around him from his wife Denise, family, friends, Irwin Mitchell, and charity support groups.
