Huluween has slowly become a fun little time of year, Idk let’s call it a tradition now on Hulu for the Spoooookkkyyy Season, and yeah sure some are hits, some are misses, some upcoming ones that literally made me throw up. I still don’t like you Mr. Crocket. Seriously, I threw up in the opening 5 minutes.

But we’re not talking about last night’s spaghetti. We got Sarah Paulsen doing what she does best

Sarah Paulsen is coocoocachoo in this latest psychological thriller, that has mmmm interesting twists and turns, so without further inhalation of dust particles, let’s get into Hold Your Breath.

Things kick off in 1933, set on the Great Plains of the Oklahoma panhandle during the ole Dust Bowl as it’s working its destructive forces through the southern Midwest. We’re introduced to Sarah Paulsen’s Margaret Bellum, and her two daughters Rose and Ollie. Something to note is “Bellum” is Latin for “war” and then I found this Latin phrase that you know I can’t pronounce buuuuuuttt it means “the war of all against all”. It’s the dust bowl, they be fighting for resources.

They are alone on the homestead, learning her husband Henry left weeks prior to help build some bridge, Idk it’s randomly mentioned, basically he had to find work to better the family, finish their home, plant a crop, in general help. This is because there’s dust EVERYWHERE.

It’s also established that Margaret had unfortunately lost a different daughter to Scarlet Fever only 5 years earlier. A real shame, but could have been worse, like a curious case of emerald diarrhea. Moving on, Margaret and the girls spend their days cleaning, dusting, chores around the homestead, and traveling into town for group bonding, rest, and religion with the others at the old one room church. As you can see, faith is the driving force for these ladies, and will be something that torments Margaret later on.

I forgot this, but Margaret deals with severe sleepwalking episodes, what appears to be delusional insomnia, and OCD tendencies with trying to stop dust from entering any and every crack in their home. It’s heavily hinted this is a major problem, so therefore was giving sleeping pills from the local doctor man and locks the girls in their own separate room, to eliminate any sort of violent misunderstanding.
