Dr Eva Steliarova-Foucher describes how IARC and partners are building capacity in registration of childhood cancer through the “Targeting Childhood Cancer through the Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development (ChildGICR)” project. From 20 original Masterclass participants, more than 120 professionals in 27 countries were trained during the four ChildGICR courses that took place in 2024.
IARC and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital launched ChildGICR as a bilateral collaborative agreement in May 2020. Graduates of the ChildGICR masterclass were nominated to become members of GICRNet, a network of trainers who co-develop education material and disseminate their expertise through courses or consultancies to those who need training or assistance in the six IARC Hub regions. The ChildGICR Masterclass was launched as part of the ongoing activities of the GICRNet to form networks of regional trainers on specific topics in cancer registration.
