MIREI - Sell Me Your Love

MIREI’s new single, “Sell Me Your Love” is inspired by a real-life incident that occured in Kabukicho district in Shinjuku. A photo of a women covered in blood smoking a cigarette while using her phone next to a bloody naked body went viral on social media, which brought Kabukicho, one of the most famous nightlife district in Tokyo and its darkside to attention.

MIREI uses her unique perspective as an artist with a career both in Japan and the US to shed light on the Tokyo nightlife and the reality of the scene and the people who work in the district. In Kabukicho, the idea of “selling love” is a common concept, and the incident that took place is a result of an extreme situation. The song portrays the unique night life scene where love and in a way that’s never been spoken about by American artists, and helps us see a side of Tokyo in its true colors, rather than the familiarized, glamorous Tokyo that is often seen in the music scene.
