Center for Human Factors in Health Care

#PrismaHealth and #ClemsonUniversity have partnered to launch the Center for Human Factors Engineering to focus on how systems work in providing care and help to redesign existing systems in order to emphasize improved care and access.

This work has the potential to help us improve the ability of our local and regional communities to give and receive care.

Human Factors is the scientific discipline measuring the interactions between humans and the systems they are a part of. In traditional engineering, the focus is on building solutions to fix problem. In Human Factors Engineering, the concept is the same, but the study is focused on improving the health care system and its affects on the humans who both provide medical care and receive medical care within it.

This ability to take a more focused look at medical processes and make changes to ensure that what happens in the ongoing hospital environment better matches the lab testing of new technologies and processes helps create improvement without having to wait for a problem to be discovered through patient experience.

Prisma Health and Clemson University, working together, hope with this partnership to improve patient outcomes and create a better health care environment here in South Carolina and beyond.
