If you are struggling with anxiety, an underdeveloped vestibular system could be contributing to the problem. People with vestibular dysfunction can expect to feel general anxiety, panic, and overwhelm.

If you still have a retained Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR), it is an indication that you have an underdeveloped vestibular system.

Here’s how you test for the TLR: 1 - Stand with feet together, eyes closed, and arms in a T-Rex position. Slowly tilt their head back and stay in that position for 10 seconds. Then with their eyes still closed, tilt their head forward and stay in that position for 10 seconds. Repeat this process 2-3 times. 2 - Be ready to catch them if they fall. 3 - You are looking to see if they have unsteadiness or an inability to hold this position. If they cannot maintain this position, it is an indicator that they have a retained TLR. If they CAN maintain this position, that is good and means they do not have this TLR.

If you find you or your child still have this TLR, primitive reflex exercises as well as modalities that stimulate the frontal lobe will be important for remediating and getting rid of this reflex. One of the best ways to provide stimulus to the frontal lobe is specific chiropractic adjustments.

In our next video, we will be talking about BOLT scores and breathing and how that can contribute to anxiety.
