Is cancer hereditary? Yes, there are lot of cancers that are hereditary. There is a difference between cancer is hereditary, familial and genetic, all are different. Lot of important cancers like the breast cancer, ovarian cancers, colonic cancers like HNPCC syndromes and many others, sudden thyroid cancers or hereditary. So history of familial cancer, hereditary is important. Now certain part of esophageal or food pipe cancer it can come in hereditary and familial but not all of them because the commonest cause is the food habits, the tobacco chewing, and drinking hot tea and hot spices. So some part of it is hereditary and familial but it does not and that all food pipe cancer if your ancestors or your family members have, you have it. It is more common in ovarian cancer, breast cancer, endometrial and thyroid and other cancers.
