Authorities identified the animal as a husky puppy and cited the woman for animal cruelty. She initially pleaded not guilty but struck a deal with prosecutors before her hearing. On February 28, 2023, she received a six-month deferred sentence, requiring her to complete an online hunter safety course within 60 days and to surrender the rifle she used for six months. This means that if she meets certain conditions during this period, the charge could be removed from her record.
