1/2 cup whole wheat or bulgur wheat
1/2 cup red lentils (masoor dal)
1/2 cup green lentils (moong dal)
1/2 cup barley
1 large onion, finely sliced
2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
1 tablespoon cumin seeds
1 tablespoon coriander powder
1 tablespoon garam masala
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
8 cups water or as needed
1/2 cup oil or ghee
