80 years ago the Eighth Air Force - known as the Mighty Eighth was moved to England. It was formed from the 8th Bomber Wing in Virginia the month before. They were responsible for a spectacular number of bombing missions into nazi-occupied Europe, capable of launching 2000 bombers and 1000 fighters in a single mission.
