Speed skydiving is a difficult sport that requires practitioners to jump from an airplane and try to reach and maintain the highest possible final speed. Speed skydiving was invented in the late 1990s, and is known as the fastest non-motorized sport on Earth. Competitions begin by skydiving from the plane at an altitude of between 13,000 feet and 14,000 feet, then turning at an angle of 90 degrees from the direction in which the plane is flying, alternating left and right.
