Bolzano - The journey to becoming a smart city with Sinfonia - a European Project.

In 2014 Bolzano began the journey to reduce its emissions and increase the well-being of its citizens. Under the direction of Eurac Research, the Municipality of Bolzano, the Provincial Institute for Social Housing IPES, Alperia and Agenzia CasaClima have been collaborating for several years to achieve this goal.
5 big social housing complexes have undergone massive refurbishments in collaboration with both public and private stakeholders. Solar systems, geothermal and innovative casing solutions are among some of the technologies being used to reduce energy consumption by 40-60% and to increase the share of renewables by 20%. Today, more than 300 families live in more comfortable, safer homes fitted with innovative technologies.
Moreover, The City of Bolzano has installed monitoring systems at various points throughout the town to better anticipate the needs of its citizens.
The Sinfonia project has enabled Bolzano partners to experiment with innovative procedures in redevelopment and to adopt a more integrated and long-term approach in the city’s future decision making.
Sinfonia's experience has been shared with local and European technicians to be replicated in other cities.
