In an interview with Lehren Retro, the veteran star once revealed that director Kidar Sharma slapped her for repeatedly laughing when she was supposed to cry during a scene in ‘Hamari Yaad Ayegi’. Tanuja left the set crying and complained to mother Shobna, who after listening to the entire episode, gave another slap to Tanuja. She took her back to the set and told the director that she is crying and he can resume the shoot.Although Humari Yaad Aayegi failed to achieve success at the box office, but earned Tanuja widespread recognition. She established herself in Hindi and Bengali films and starred in several successful movies. One of her most successful film was Haathi Mere Saathi alongside Rajesh Khanna. It became one of the highest-grossing films of 1971 and her pairing with Kaka was widely adored by the audience. Her other superhits include Agni, Jeene Ki Raah, Do Chor, Ek Jaan Hain Hum, and Pyaar Ki Kahani.
