Today is the last of my North Wales videos and it takes us to Penrhyn Quarry near Bethesda in North Wales. Although still an active mining area, this part is no longer used for quarrying has been turned into a Zip Line adventure destination.

Zip World at Penrhyn Quarry offers you Velocity 2, the worlds fastest zip line, Quarry Karting the UK’s only mountain cart experience and Quarry Tours to the top, which on a clear day gives views of Snowdonia National Park, the Menai Strait and Ogwen Valley.

Facilities include a restaurant, viewing area and free parking.

Penrhyn Quarry, first mentioned in a Welsh poem in 1570, was developed by Richard Pennant in the 1800’s, purchased in 1963 by Alfred McAlpine and is now currently owned by the Breedon Group, the working mine still supplies slate and the area has been named a Global Heritage Stone Resource by Welsh Slate International Union of Geological Sciences.
