I do believe helmets make your neck more susceptible to injury. When you wear a helmet it increase the circumference of your "head". What that does is essentially make a giant lever arm with your neck at the pivot point. To demonstrate what I mean, lay on the ground on your face. Now do the same thing while wearing a helmet. You will feel tremendous discomfort in your neck. Now imagine landing that way at high speed... 

So now your head is protected in the event of a crash but your neck is subject to much greater forces. It's one of those situations where one solution creates another problem.

I heard neck braces and airbag vests can help stabilize your neck.

You need a helmet to break when you are on impact, if it is too strong to break the force will still get you, because the breaking helmet has more surface area or something like that

Wondering if the soft covers to football helmets are really going to help and why didnt they try them on kids jelmets forst instead of NFL
