@AnsonAlexander

The thumbnail should have said "Numpad or Noompad?"... Sorry for my pronunciation mistake but I'm enjoying the laughs in the comments! Noooooming away...

@sadgirl_fishi

I don't really use the num pad a lot except for putting in my pin code or just typing numbers but I still like having it, it's easier to type numbers using that then the row ontop.

I am an accountant and tax preparer by trade, and just discovered the world of detached numpads. They are so much better than the numpads that come with your 100% keyboard, because they usually come with 3-4 more keys, which you can program to serve as an =, backspace and tab. Having those three extra buttons makes it possible for you to do ALL data entry with just the numpad. With the attached numpad on the 100% keyboard, you still need to use your off-hand to hit the tab key or the backspace when you make mistakes.

The Detached numpad also gives you the most flexibility to place it on your desk, or even set aside the rest of your keyboard so you have more room to just look at the hard copy documents while entering data with your numpad. Then there's the flexibility of using your numpad with your left hand continuing to mouse with your right.

Honestly, having the detached numpad makes the number row at the top of the keyboard so useless. Especially because you can reprogram the keys on the detached numpad to behave like keys on the number row, meaning that if you hit Shift + 1 (on the numpad) you to make an !, and shift + 2 to make an @...etc. With the detached numpad, the innovation of the 40% keyboard removing the numeber row and F keys just seems totally genius. As of now I am still using a 65% keyboard, but I really want to try 40% keyboard + detached numpad work station.

just my two cents.

@iainh

I love the aesthetics of many mechanical keyboards, but anything less than 100% is going to affect me greatly. 96% hides keys behind a modifier (making them too cumbersome). Scroll Lock, Pause, Right-Ctrl, Right-Alt, and the majority of the F keys are the ones I don't use. The numpad is insanely useful by comparison, as shown in this video.

Pronouncing it "noompad" though.... yikes.

@mariofilippi3539

Thank you for the video which is helping me in the selection of a new computer. Much to my dismay, many of the new Dells lack a numeric keypad and I'm in a quandary as to whether this is a deal breaker or not. I'm tending towards purchasing one with the numeric keypad simply becuase I'm used to one.

@mjsud

I love my macro pad. Its great for games and leaves me room for mouse. Great video! Not sure how I feel about the pronunciation of NUM pad. 😂

@MalGames91

as a gamer I really want more space to the left to move my mouse around. But I can't live without the numberpad for changing what potion is slotted or whatever I wanna bind them to for a game. I love my small keyboard that lacks arrows and the numberpad. I have a separate device with the num pad and the arrow keys on it. Its called the "Kisnt Mechanical Numeric Keypad" it has white backlight but the keys that come with it do not shine through for the letters so I had to buy new keycaps. I left the top row of keys default and for the Tab button I used a T key =D

@mahoslash

The Num Pad should be adjusted to the left.
Modern keyboards should look like a TKL keyboard with the Num Pad just adjusted to the left.

@Tigs62

At position 0:56 in your video, there is an image of a number keypad on the monitor. However, that is a PHONE number pad, not a Computer Number pad.
There are several reasons that they are different, but the number one reason (sorry, pun intended) is the fact that phone number keys have the 123 keys at the top and computer numeric keypads have the 123 at the bottom.
I wish that they could just make up their mind and settle on a standard.

@nightc1

I've started looking at the 61 and 87 key keyboards because I legit don't use the number pad ever and hate how far away the mouse sits. I took typing back in HS and we got used to using the numbers above the regular keys and didn't have number pads. So my muscle memory is all about the home keys and top number keys. I can reach them without ever lifting my wrists and the F & J on most every keyboard has a little bump so finding the home keys is easy without looking. I think I'm going to move ahead with my purchase. I was curious if you'd sell me on why maybe this was a bad idea but all I can see is the benefit of not having my mouse so far away. I'm not sure if I'll go 61, 87, or get one of each. I like the idea of the 87 for the arrow keys but do I really even need them if I'm mostly going to use WASD or just swap over to a game controller when gaming? 61 is looking better and better. I don't really care about macros. Now if I can just find a keyboard without backlight or RGB... or at least one that lets me fully turn that off without needing to install software for it.

@Gnomelotte

Now I get why I don't understand numpads.
It is because I can only type with one finger.
(Two if you count holding the shift button).

@Diceflame

What if you move it to the side of the mouse they do make mice with enough buttons where you could just move it to the side of the mouse I'm thinking like Logitech g600 for an example and I know there's more mice with more buttons

@philxcskier

I couldn’t do my work without a keypad- I work mostly with spreadsheets and numbers haha

@qwert4871

5:14 No, you are not. You can remap keys from “U” to “?” to become numpad keys when a layer button is held. Also very convenient for arrows and PgUp/PgDn.

@MrKZee

you aren't worthy of calling yourself a nerd!
pre left alt and num 1 then release both, did you get ☺ ?
0177 ±

26 →  right facing arrow
do you know how satisfying to respond to someone ± like that ,
and these are just those that i use from the ancient times ))

but in my case it's just an engineering background and working with numbers, my laptop doesn't have num pad, and it doesn't bother me a lot. However, i trained myself to be portable and for some time i worked exclusively on a laptop ... painful experience )))

But i just can't understand how people live without num pad and live without it half of the time i'm using the computer. )

Also! the old Warcraft would be impossible to play without num pad because it gave you quick access to the hero's inventory, to this day i remember that num 7 is teleport))
so when you talk gamers, they are just not worthy 😆 😆 😆
But yeah, in modern action games you don't need that many keys bu simulators, strategies, and general workflow when you are power user and just have more keys for bindings... is a life-changing experience.

@ezrapierce1233

As much as i love noompads on fullsize keyboards, i really avoid them on laptops.

@lollllloro

Danger! Stop thinking about this right now or you'll inevitably end up with a fully programmable keyboard. Keyboard normalcy will be over for you and normal keyboards will continue to disappoint you with their immense clunkiness for the rest of your life.
Heck, I don't even have, need or want an extra row to fit numbers any more, my number pad's central 5 is at my right hand middle finger when I hold a modifier and I'm basically unable to go back. All keyboard and adjacent functions I could ever want can so easily be compressed down to about the number of letters plus less than ten extra keys when the keyboard itself separates the physical from the logical.

@Team40MilliGs

Clicking off after hearing how you say numpad

"NUME PAD" xd

@sierraecho884

I hate the below 100% keyboard. It must the this new damn generation which also pre-orders digital product as if the factory runs out of it and pays 100% premium for everything with ugly RGB shit and the word GAAAMIIIINNG in the box. Like a GAAAMIING chair, which sucks balls.
