It happens a lot with other bikes as well. The stronger the derailleur, the more chance of bending the hanger. This is true for even entry level drivetrains as well.
It's probably a "feature" built into the system so you have to switch to UDH 🤑 with a new derailleur of course 😉
I had this on a bike I installed XT M8100 on. Kept drifting out and couldn’t get perfect shifting. Replaced hanger and straightened it. Little while later it was out again. Thank god for UDH
The reason can be found in the derailure. gx eats the pin bushing into ovals. You can get a little relief if you add a screw to the mainshaft pin. There is m4 thread. Whole cage rotates when you remove entire derailure and twist it a bit.
Try installing a new derailleur hanger and see if the problem continue.
Have you tried with the new ones? The AXS that fits directly onto the bike frame, without any derailer hanger?
I've seen that problem several times, nothing related to axs. Most of the time it's a tooth in the cassette that causes the problem. Put the chain in that gear and move the pedals real slow. You'll see that at one point the chain tries to get to the upper cog and then goes back to the 10th gear. That is the tooth you have to file down. Of course, prior to that the derrailleur hanger should be checked for alignment, B-Tension screw perfectly adjusted, and new cable/housing installed if necessary.
Thanks for your nice videos and this one! I suspect to have the same problem with the Ekar derailleur from Campa. I had to straighten the hanger several times. I just ordered a new hanger and will experience if it comes again.
Thank you Szaju for this video, it shows there is something in the air and product could be simply defective. pozdro :)
What derailleur hanger tool was that you used brand name?
I've had a mullet setup on my gravel bike for a little while now. I haven't had that issue so far. If it is a problem, it would be another argument for SRAM's new "transmission" where it mounts directly to the frame. Of course, it can only be used with frames designed with SRAM's universal hanger.
How is this such coincidence. I had a brand new Garbaruk cassette and GX AXS (with a new chain) and it worked good for weeks, months but now it also started doing some skipping going from 10 to 9. And only on that place. All the other gears shift crisp and instant. So I’m going to check this and come back to you if I got the same problem.
Yes, i've experienced difficulty adjustning my GX AXS gear. Have adjusted hanger 2 times. The other day it happened again - and unfortunatly I bend my cage seriously. Never bend a cage in 10 years of MTB with mechanical gearing and is quite experienced in the mechanics - alså using the white b-srew tool for b-srew and adjust at sag. Quite sure the servo on the GX AXS is too strong. But what is the solution? A more stiff hanger with risk of braking the frame or? Would appreciate som discussions and solutions. Sram unfortunatly only sell inner cage. Thats quite weird!?!? Maybe the problems is why SRAM has develloped the Transmission group?? Any suggestions for a solution? Appreciate, thanks :-). And thank you for great informative videos.
I have had same problem with BMC URS. 10-52 cassette and X01 rear derailleur. 1x in front. Brand new bike and hanger needed to be adjusted just after 350 km. I will let you know if this problem occurs in the future, because if yes i believe it is manufacturer's/product's failiure. It cannot imagine situation in which derailleur bends hanger on regular basis and it's ok.
At the 1x12 systems , I say, that slowly all derilleurs twists a bit the hanger, when is on largest cog , by pulling it, the chain slapping, and if its on a fully bike(swing arm is pulls) there is a lot of tension on the hanger, i can imagine that is needed to readjust the hanger by time. Especialli if you have a thinner hange , twists easyer.
What is the tool u using 4 correcting derailleur hanger? What make?
I've seen the same thing for years with the lower tier Eagle rear derailleurs - cheap construction with too much plastic allows too much play... haven't seen it above GX level...
Hi. Do you need bike mechanic for a job?
Nice Video
