The average NHS Diversity Officer makes £45,000 per year, and the NHS has hired over 800 of them in the past several years with further positions still being listed in trusts across the country today. Meanwhile, the average nursing salary is just £34,000 per year, with millions of nurses and other healthcare staff making far less than that in the NHS banding system. There are too many middle managers and unelected bureaucrats taking a lion’s share of wages within the NHS, while our recruitment for nurses and doctors has stalled across a number of years due to poor investment and low incentivisation of frontline public sector healthcare roles. £40million might not seem like much, but add that to the countless other unnecessary roles and the countless other means of overspending, and it all adds up to a system which is fundamentally broken.
