It took the entirety of the first one for me to realign with the Yorgos wavelength. The second one evolved into something quite cerebrally challenging. The third one was an absolute chef’s kiss. I loved it so much - I wish it was the whole movie!
I love Yorgos's films, The Lobster is my favorite, followed by Killing of a Sacred Deer. This might be third on my list, I need to see it again though.
It’s my favorite movie of 2024 by far, so I give it a 9/10
It was also HILARIOUS! The realization of whats on the video in the second story is the loudest ive laughed in theater in a long time 😆
Will need to check this one out. Recommend checking out a new horror anthology from South Korea called NEW NORMAL - it's from the director of Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum
I really enjoyed this movie, and I’m glad some people enjoyed it too, it’s a strange ass movie but one I’m glad I watched
Also worried about the run-time a bit... but I sat through Schindler's List and Titanic a few times so I reckon I'll be fine. Yorgos is such a creative talented film-maker... Poor Things just blew me away and is easily one of my favourite movies of the year! Also Dogtoothe is a modern classic IMO. Great review Emma, thanks. I will go see this when I have my holiday from work next week 👍
Love all Yorgos films I find them fascinating . Can’t wait to see this one. Poor Things I liked most.Dogtooth the most disturbing of them all for me. Thanks Emma, I love watching your reviews, you’re the best. From a fan in Melbourne 😊
Finally got around to this one, and I find it an interesting approach to identity, conditioning and control, and with all the exploitation that goes with it (be it violent or sexual). Every character/actor incarnation was distinct, and I enjoyed segment three the most. I can see why some would be frustrated that the approach of these segments are obscure parables that link only thematically, but I respect that the film is unabashedly weird and let's you form your own viewpoints. I'm happy to give it an 8/10.
I can't tell you how focused I became on the background after the lights in the parking lot went out. 😬
The people who do not like the length of this movie do not know how to watch a movie. I enjoy long movies as long as they are engaging and interesting, which this film definitely was.
Loving these reviews. Kind of like imagining that you press record on your way out and the camera actually waits until you come back lol
This sounds right up my alley!
I was mervous about the runtime too but the anthology format made it breeze by.
THAT was one effed up movie.........very uncomfortably enjoyable with EXCELLENT performances.......TY EMMA!
I would want Yorgos to direct a live action little mermaid based on the original dark story with maybe Hunter Schaefer as the mermaid. If Emma Stone hasss to be there maybe she is the human queen or Ursula
I love that initial feeling of watching any Yorgos Lanthimos movie for the first time where you have to sort of figure out what the “rules” of this fictional universe are, and in KoK you get to do that thrice which I really loved. After Sacred Deer, I would put this as Yorgos’ close second best. Although Dogtooth is a powerhouse of a movie as well, and I loved The Favorite. Actually, I think I love everything I’ve seen of his. But for my tastes this was his funniest movie yet. I was crying laughing at the end of RMF Eats a Sandwich, although that probably doesn’t make me sound like a good person haha
Omg the Todd Solondz representation! I think a lot of modern black comedy wouldn’t be possible without him. Even his later stuff like Weiner Dog is hilarious and so upsetting
OMG fantastic!!!! This was a trip of a movie lol So happy you reviewed this one! Killing of a sacred deer is still my fav! Thank u spooky!!
