I don't have the route myself, but I think your reason on why the route is so laggy is the fact that there is a lot of 3D scenery used. On my fictional route I once placed a lot of 3D trees as further scenery and the frame rate dropped by about 30-40 FPS. For the rest, very nice review!

Great video! You’re the reason why I‘m interested in NZ railways, so thank you! But one question (I‘m sorry if you‘ve been asked that so many times that It’s not funny), when will you review JT’s WCML route? (Now that you got it anyway) In my opinion, it is exact as good if not better than Blackpool Branches

I suspect the black scenery has something to do with the route's coordinates. This can also be seen in quick drive, where if you want a daytime summer run, you have to set nighttime and winter, but the lights on the route will be lit (and unlit at night). Presumably the engine isn't working properly with a route set in New Zealand, and I doubt we can expect any bug fixes for these issues.
