Thanks Liron. IoT devices are a massive problem when so many people open a box, don't read the instructions and think they are great, or even worse, trust someone else to set them up, and when asked, "what password do you want to use?", don't ask how to change it.
Im only on my 2nd video Liron. I will be a regular watcher. Thank you for the way you are delivering this info. Your video breakdowns are great as well.
I avoid a lot of the issues brought up in this video by getting camera systems which are not cloud based and then have the system on an isolated part of my network. Only way to access the camera feeds externally is via a VPN connection to my edge firewall. All cameras are hard wired with video being stored on a local NVR.
Closed DVR system all the way, if it's not on line or receiving a remote signal, it's not hackable.
Easiest and cheapest way to avoid this is to use your own firmware on something like a Raspberry Pi system. I have mine running local small model ai and it works great for object detection.
Because of home invasions & previous tenants who kept an extra set of keys, so they can return to the premises & empty the place. In some regions, the law forbids changing the locks & there is a new trend of landlords entitling themselves in people s privacy, while forbidding you to have a dog. The law is on their side because sometimes, dwellings get badly damaged by careless tenants. No cleaning or treatment ever get rid of the smell completely.
It's so depressing. The older folks remember when you could leave the doors unlocked as they went shopping for a few hours. And even left the youngins to fend for themselves if mammy and pappy went to dinner. ๐ฎ Not 'nymore.
Insecam taught me that a lot of people are careless with cam settings.
Thanks, great advice.
Give an example of the top 3-5 security systems to help the end user make a decision based on their needs.
I remember that you had Purple hair !!!:glasses-purple-yellow-diamond:
Super informative video as always big up liron ๐๐
Don't use wireless cams. Hard-wired only. Don't use any cloud features - local storage only. No remote access, only available via VPN into the home network.
If you use the guest network option on a home router, make sure the guest network doesnโt have a captive logon portal, because that would prevent the wireless devices from reconnecting.
Just a heads up everyone , some criminals are using wifi jammers when doing home invasions. This disables your cell phone , alarm system and cameras if wireless . In my case all my cameras are hard wired via cat6 , but I regret getting rid of my land line
YA, I was checking out some live cams in Canada, because I wanted to see the snowed in areas, and the wilderness, when, all of a sudden I clicked on a link, and Canada's website had peoples live stream videos of peoples in their homes, of which many people were walking around nude. Watch out people, this guy is telling you the truth, I witnessed it.
Can you recommend your favorite wi-fi cam with all the stuff you just explained? Does that even exist?
What about the inbuilt cameras on TV's.
Also don't put the camera in your bedroom. That will make it a lot less likely for someone to get material to blackmail you with.
