So, the controller held the plane below the MEA & it crash's into the mountains & the dead pilot shares the blame?

@ianroberts9195

What is not reported here was that a Beechcraft King Air 90, N555S, was prepared to take off directly behind Sinatras Lear 23. However, the Pilot of the King Air elected to return to the FBO and wait out some of the weather. That King Air was my late Fathers and my Dad was the pilot. I vividly remember that day and later, the images of Mrs. Sinatra’s red sweater against the snow covered mountain. How tragic. Ultimately it is the Pilot in Commands responsibility to decide to proceed or delay departure, and it is also his responsibility to override ATC instructions when the pilot feels an imminent danger exists. Any pilot who has flown in or out of Palm Springs knows the San Jacinto and San Gorgonio mountains are tricky. Rest in Peace to all.

He didn’t call the tower it was the departure controller

The Charter jet company in this matter was called JET AVIA. It was based in Las Vegas, and was co-owned by a man named CHRIS KARAMANOS, who was a sort of a father figure to me in my youth. ELVIS was a fequent passenger, as were several other celebrities, but they mainly were hired by the Government to transport sensitive documents, and I've been told that they had clearance at "Area 51". The crash in Michigan may have involved the transport of classified material, and there was some conspiracy theory chatter at the time. It seems that incident was easily attributed to bad weather, and an inexperienced pilot.
Mr. Karamanos took his own life about a decade later.

I always questioned this coincidence that two family members from the Rat Pack died in a plane crash on the exact same mountain, 10 years apart.
