Quick Correction: The Ghost Council didn't curse Scratch, he tried to curse Molly to never be rid of him until she moved out of his house, which ended up as more of a curse on him.
(1:15) Correction: Scratch cursed Molly thinking that would make her go away, but it didn't and the ghost council was like "sounds like a you problem"
I really appreciated the Hannukah episode. Doug hit the nail on the head with how they took the time to actually represent the holiday
This show resonated so strongly with me, and I don’t think it could’ve come out at a better time. That McGee spirit of kindness and optimism is something that’s so badly needed in our world today. I think we all could be a little more like Molly.
“This is mostly meant for a younger crowd.” As someone who’s turning 32 in about a month, I’m not ashamed to say that I love this series. It was definitely a breath of fresh air that I desperately needed during rough times, and the finale hit me especially hard. I know Master Shake is Dana Snyder’s best known role, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that Scratch is easily his BEST character and vocal performance, in my opinion.
This show treats death so casually. There was an episode where they meet a ghost girl who haunts an old blockbuster because she died on the way to returning an overdue video. And she’s perfectly fine with being dead and watching old tapes. Not to mention the amount of birds that die, immediately turn into ghosts and casually go about their day.
There a few things I'd like to add..... 1) This show subverted several tropes that are common in "kid is friends with magical being" shows (i.e. Scratch's existence is not kept secret from the rest of the human cast, Molly's rival actually helps her and her family out of a tight spot on her own, The encounter with the Chairman is at the end of Season 1 instead of being saved for the grand finale, character development actually sticks instead of being dropped like a hot potato, etc.) 2) Molly's brother is voiced by Amethyst from Steven Universe 3) Due to it ending at Season 2, there's a few things that never got a chance to shine (one being that big corporation that forces Andrea's parents out of business, that could've been more for her character arc. Also, she never directly met Scratch)
Gotta say, this series did a good job presenting it's lessons in an understandable way. I'm still impressed by some of the more unconventional ones, like the period episode.
"I didn't curse Molly Mcgee, she cursed me."
As a history buff, I gotta give this show major props for having the subtlest reference to Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass in the Hanukah Special. It's brief, but that's the point, because we see Libby's great-grandparents forced to flee what is clearly a Jewish ghetto in Nazi Germany. We see the horror on their faces as they see people running in fear right before a brick breaks their window and then it cuts to them having successfully immigrated to America while pregnant, they raise their son who then grows up to raise a family and so on. I don't know about you, but I don't think a show like this has ever alluded to such a dark bit of history, especially on Disney.
The series finale was originally written as the end of a third season that didn't get produced. If Disney didn't cut the show short, then there would've been an episode explaining that ghosts only exist until they complete their unfinished business from the mortal world, and that after their business is finished, they disappear. This makes the ending even sadder!
We all need Molly in our lives right now.
The creators of the show did a small raffle for a signed poster of the show and I won!! Still hanging on my wall in my room.
Yeah, that ending hit HARD, though it does kinda feel a little rushed, like they knew they weren't gonna get another season so they had to make sure they get an emotionally impactful finale before they get canned. But for the most part I'd say they hit bullseye with it
I LOVE The Ghost and Molly McGee! This was my favorite Disney show of current years it's just so fun and sweet and joyful to watch, but I do have to the show did lack off a little Season 2, as they were juggling two different overarching plots, one involving an family of Ghost hunters moving across the street and Molly ended up falling fir the son which risk the chance of him discovering about Scratch and also Jinx plotting to take over the Ghost World as revenge for Scratch destroying the original Chairman. Still all around I still enjoy it for what it was and I'm disappointed that we didn't get a Third Season, but in all honesty what were they gonna do for a third season when they basically (for the most part) wrap everything up? Scratch is gone, he's human again, he's now living his life what were they gonna do without him? Also Andrea got the very short end of the stick on the second Season, sure she was still apart of the show and got like 2 or 3 Episodes involving her but it felt like she reduced to a side character and not involved in the the season arc unlike Ollie or Libby has, she never even learned about Scratch like Libby and Ollie and despite being friends with Molly she wasn't seeing hanging out with her that much it just fell like they left her arc unfinished.
Wander over Yonder + Beetlejuice = Ghost and Molly Mcgee
I’m actually really glad that they had an episode focusing on girls getting their first period. I’ve heard complete denial about the ideas and incidents presented, but a lot of it actually makes sense to me, and I appreciate that a comedic and exaggerated approach is used in order to make it non-threatening. I think that shows like this need to tackle this and other subjects more so that the stigma can be removed and information and different opinions can actually be talked about. Clearly, it does not happen enough in the home, and schools remain hamstrung by the lowest common denominator.
We all need a Molly Mcgee in our lives 🙂
Couple of things: 1) Scratch wasn’t falling behind on his Scares prior to Molly showing up. He just wasn’t invited to party with the Ghost Council after his performance review, which is why they kicked him out. 2) Scratch cursed himself by accident.
