If only there was a severance chip that would help with waiting for the next season
My take: - What Lumon is trying to create — a severence chip that auto-activates every time a person is in “bad” situations that trigger the “4 tempers”. The chip would basically make a bunch of innies - one for each type of bad situation (e.g, going to the dentist, being in a turbulent plane, etc) - What the MDR work is — I think Mark & team are being made to identify the 4 tempers for each type of “bad” situation, so the final severence chip can identify the differences in each bad situation and bring out a different innie for each one. They’re essentially labeling “emotion data” to differentiate each bad situation and create a new innie type in the process. That’s why Cold Harbor can only be tested on Gemma once Mark finishes labeling the data. - what Cold Harbor is — the worst “bad situation” i.e., death. The whole reason why Cobel wanted to remove pain was because she saw her mom suffer on her deathbed.
Honestly, at the end of the seasonal finale, I think there will be more questions than we have right now. That’s how they get us to come back.
If Dylan was reintegrated, everyone wins. His outie gets a better work ethic, his innie gets to be with his “family”, and Gretchen gets the man she loves and the man she wants
My prediction is Mark going to try and rescue Gemma and Helly E will stop them. Then we wait for 2+ years for the conclusion
And it’s gonna be 75 minutes long. Absolutely amazing. Episode 8 was only like 37 minutes INCLUDING the intro and credits. Glad they’re going with an extra 20-25 minutes for the final episode.
I highly doubt cobel is actually in it to help save Gemma. She would've explained what it is they're doing down there if she actually wanted to help so I can't help but think she wants to see her work come into fruition herself. I love how episode 9 in both season one and two ended with Mark S saying "She's Alive". I cannot fucking wait for the finale.
I think that Jame appeared only for the purpose to drag Helly to the testing floor, which is why in the opening Helly is in the export hall elevator and scared. Then when mark turns up to work the next day, he will see the export hall directions under her keyboard where she placed it
I hate how TV shows now make us wait two or three years to watch another season.
Ends with helly finding Gemma to a black screen
All of MDR now has experienced emotional attachment as innies. In S1, it was only Irv. Now they all have opened up to feeling deeply about someone.
This is why it’s good to rewatch a series at least once. When he said he was tricked by Helly it was pretty obvious it was the season one finale that was being spoken about. Not sure where the debate is coming from
In episode 9, Helly has been isolated and doesn’t have much to lose: her outie is an enemy, Mark is absent, Dylan blames her for everything that’s happening, and he reminds her that Mark couldn’t tell her apart from Helena, which affects her deeply. I think Helly will sacrifice herself to save Gemma or, at the very least, put the company in jeopardy. Additionally, I have a theory—I believe she is pregnant and will find out through Jame Eagan, who will make her understand that, thanks to her, the company will endure because she is giving him an heir. This could really enrage Helly and influence her actions in the finale.
All I know is that the ending of Cold Harbor is going to leave us hurt with a cliffhanger, and then make us wait 3 years for Season 3 for answers to it.
I just really hope the ending will be unpredictable but satisfying like from Season 1. Because now we know what is happening to Gemma, it is not hard to imagine what the ending could look like, so I hope they won't disappoint us with a very predictable ending. I wonder if Ms Cobel could reintagrate all of them with a hidden function?
I think Jane is going to try and dark side Helly, he’ll talk about how she can be with Mark if she gets him to complete cold harbour
I have no idea where this show is going, but here are the rabbit holes my mind has led me watching these last few episodes: - Over this season, we have seen Mark’s innie fall in love with Helly while his outie desperately searches for Gemma. - Season 1 had tons of religious / Twighlight Zone vibes, especially the perpetuity wing with all the Eagan mannequins and the “revolving” references. The penultimate episode was titled “The After Hours” and had tons of references to the Twighlight Zone episode of the same name, about a group of mannequins on a secret floor that take turns living among the humans, with the protagonist living among humans so much she had forgotten she was a mannequin. - In the last episode we saw 1) Dylan struggle with the love triangle of his inner-outie-wifey dilemma without ever having the option to have his innie and outie meet/confront each other. Pretty sure this is to foreshadow the inevitable Mark dilemma coming up. (Also, top marks to Dylan screaming in a way equal parts heartbreaking and hilarious). 2) Drummond says something to the effect of “this was supposed to be the greatest day in Lumon’s history” with inference to the completion of Cold Harbor. So what makes Cold Harbor so different from other rooms on the experimental floor? - We know every other room Gemma is being tested on (and every other use case of Severance for example the woman in the birthing cabins) has been to sever outies from the pain and suffering of life’s worst moments… - If Mark & Helly presumably make it to Gemma’s floor, innie & outie Mark will have to choose between his innie’s love for Helly and his outie’s love for Gemma…How could that present itself? -Could Cold Harbor be the most extreme display of pain suppression? Could it be Mark having to kill Gemma? Or (less violent option) him breaking her heart by choosing Helly over Gemma in the Cold Harbor room and Gemma not remembering it outside? Or given the Glasgow block with Helly, Mark’s reintegration, and Gemma’s clear desire to escape the floor when she is out of those rooms, is there some sort of clashing tango of all three shifting behaviors overlapping and overcoming Lumon together? -Could Gemma be a Kier creation / mannequin who has forgotten she is one because she spent time in the real world and fell in love with Mark? Could the revolving involve transfering Jame’s consciousness into Gemma? Could someone end up being revolved with the a mannequin in the perpetuity wing like in the Twighlight Zone? Like I said, I have absolutely no idea where this show is going, and my theories change with each new episode sharing new breadcrumbs of this mystery box theatre.
This episode will end with mark innie going in to find his wife, as he enters the elevator he will enter outie mark and find his wife. His memories will reintegrate further and he’s gonna prob be in pain or blood. Or maybe helly will find her first but she’s gonna turn into Helena and ask why is she here.
I think Cold Harbor is Gemma drowning. Because all of the rooms are things she fears or dislikes.
