Your wife is so smart. It brings me joy for you. If you don't catch something, she will. What a good team.
One thing many people don't understand about Vulcans is that they are not without emotion. They are actually very passionate, and stay in constant practice to deny their emotions with logic. Vulcans have an evolutionary history with Romulans, the villains from the first movie. Romulans are generally Vulcans with an attitude.
Marian & Joy, it's perfectly fine to watch these reboot Star Trek movies before the original movies from the 80's. These reboots have their fans and critics, but they are definitely entertaining! If you do watch the original movies, I'm sure that you will love them, too! πππ
"Star Trek" was originally a TV series in the 1960s, and there have been many, many "Star Trek" series and movies since then.
People, DON'T SPOIL the other movies for Marian and Joy. DON'T tell them what happens in any of them.
In my personal opinion (I know people differ on this): The Khaaaaaaaan scene was one of the best written ones in newer sci fi cinema..all the nerds in the audience went nuts. I highly recommend watching the "original" to understand why it is so cool
You guys should watch the original Wrath of Khan. It's not as slick, not as good special effects, but a good movie and kinda mirror image of this one
I love seeing people watch these movies with no prior influence. This is a true reaction. I'd love to see you go forward and reaction to other Star Trek properties but this is how I got my wife to enjoy Star Trek at first, so go at whatever pace you want, even if it's to abandon it entirely.
"At great cost, yes." Iykyk π’
Vulcans are generally twice as strong as humans. Khan has five times our strength, speed and intelligence.
Live long and prosper...in your Star Trek reactions.
I've seen almost all of the Star Trek movies both old & new, and this is my favorite of all of them. That first 10 minutes is one of the best opening sequences in any movie I can think of.
I was really surprised how well you picked up and followed both movies and picked up on the strategies in both without having the background of having watched the star trek tv series.
I watched your reaction also to the star trek movie before this one. I just want to say how impressed I was with how Joy was always on top of the plot and followed along so well. Both of you did really. So sharp there.
The prime directive is StarFleet General Order 1. No starship may interfere with the normal development of any alien life or society." General Order 1 is also better known as the Prime Directive. It supersedes all other laws and directives, with the exception of the Omega Directive.
To give you some perspective I copied this from a website. "All 13 Star Trek films have a combined total of 25 hours and 17 minutes, or just over a full day. Every single television series, both currently airing and retired, total up to 626 hours and 31 minutes, or just over 26 days. Every series and movie combined totals to 651 hours and 48 minutes, meaning it will take over 27 days to watch them all uninterrupted. Obviously watching them all consecutively is impossible, but realistically watching everything Star Trek could take less than half a year. For those who believe this beloved universe is worth investing over 39,000 minutes of life, itβs time to boldly go where only true diehard Trekkies have gone before".
I think Benedict Cumberbatch stole the show. He was awesome in that character.
Not only do I want you to see the third new Star Trek movie, I want you to watch the four to six movies with the original cast. These came out years after the original series was on television.
This movie is full of references to the movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and to the original TV series episode Space Seed, to which Star Trek II is a direct sequel; audiences were clearly expected to know those two earlier shows before seeing this one. And the little creature that turns out to be alive after seemingly dying is called a tribble, the subject of the classic TV episode The Trouble with Tribbles, one of the very best of the TV episodes.
